"Seven, eight, nine, she crossed the line" she kept singing, with her tender voice filling the halls of the grandious Aretuza. She had just finished changing her baby teeth and was enjoying not having the pain of them growing. She had a big smile crossing her face, her cheeks blusing from the laughter of her childish plays, aching from the long and sincere smile that seemed to never end, showing off her beautiful teeth, very aligned upper teeth and a bit crooked down teeth. "One, two, three, the mage crossed the sea, four, five, six she jumped over the cliff" a young girl with copper hair, reddish cheeks, white as the snow skin and deep red eyes as if they were made of rubies sang, jumping up and down, her hair dancing all around, the cool ocean breeze filling her lungs with that outstanding smell of sea, as if she could smell the salt melting in her little tongue, the bright sun on that beautiful day kissing her skin.

For some, he was a singer and a songwriter, for others he was really a poet and a writer. Throughout his long career, a debate existed over the artistic identity of Cohen. Alongside such lofty subjects, we also find references to punk Flamenco singers, accountants and Kanye West even gets a mention. What can we expect from late period Cohen? All his great themes are here: death, war, religion (both Buddhism and Judaism ) and beauty. For Cohen, just because it was his swansong, it never meant it would be sung any less sweetly. Early scholars of the Prose Edda suspected that there once existed a collection of entire poems, a theory confirmed with the rediscovery of manuscripts of the Poetic Edda. Originally known to scholars simply as Edda, the Prose Edda gained its contemporary name in order to differentiate it from the Poetic Edda. The Prose Edda appears to have functioned similarly to a contemporary textbook, with the goal of assisting Icelandic poets and readers in understanding the subtleties of alliterative verse, and to grasp the meaning behind the many kennings used in skaldic poetry. 1300 to 1600, seven manuscripts of the Prose Edda differ from one another in notable ways, which provides researchers with independent textual value for analysis. The Prose Edda consists of four sections: The Prologue, a euhemerized account of the Norse gods Gylfaginning, which provides a question and answer format that details aspects of Norse mythology (consisting of approximately 20,000 words), Skáldskaparmál, which continues this format before providing lists of kennings and heiti (approximately 50,000 words) and Háttatal, which discusses the composition of traditional skaldic poetry (approximately 20,000 words).ĭating from c. In order to provide the life that she wants for herself and Bub, the woman has to make some very significant decisions. Lutie is introduced into the novel not only in terms of the racism issue she is also discriminated and is a subject of sexism. Lutie attempts to do her best in providing the finest life she could for herself, and her son, despite the fact that she has to face all the difficulties that life tosses on her way. The gender and race are the key factors of her position in the book. Lutie is an African-American woman and a single mother. Petry gives her readers an opportunity to place themselves into the position of the main character, Lutie Johnson. A novel “The Street” by Ann Petry displays to the readers a hard life on the streets of Harlem. The most striking part of the book is its satirical look at racism, religion and other social attitudes of the time. Huck narrates the story in his distinctive voice, offering colorful descriptions of the people and places they encounter along the way. Jim runs away because he is about to be sold and separated from his wife and children, and Huck goes with him to help him get to Ohio and freedom. Though Twain saw Huck’s story as a kind of sequel to his earlier book, the new novel was far more serious, focusing on the institution of slavery and other aspects of life in the antebellum South.Īt the book’s heart is the journey of Huck and his friend Jim, a runaway enslaved person, down the Mississippi River on a raft. Twain (the pen name of Samuel Clemens) first introduced Huck Finn as the best friend of Tom Sawyer, hero of his tremendously successful novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876).
